The town of Chrudim lies in Bohemia, 100 km east of Prague, and has a population of over 25 000. The Chrudim basin (240 m above sea level) is a geomorfological part of the Bohemian chalk table-lands. The Iron Mountains (Železné hory, Vestec, 668 m a. s. l.) rise 10 km south-west of Chrudim. The river Chrudimka (106 km long), with a dam built in Seč, flows trough the town. The town is a natural gateway to many tourist trips to the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands (Českomoravská vysočina) and the Iron Mountains.
